As A Marine who was present for that weekend, I must say I have never felt more proud to wear the uniform. Ms. O''Haire is a shining example of an American mother. She was not concerned for herself, instead she was worried that the Marines who served with her son but came back when he didn''t would feel somehow guilty. Thus her generous gift.
To hear a Mom who lost a son celebrate his memory by embracing his comrades was a beautiful act I will never forget.
Add to that the fact that Boston was behind these Marines from the second they stepped off the plane, and you have a weekend that none of these Devil Dogs will ever forget.
To zootallures2...I guess anyone who is patriotic and willing to make sacrifices for this country must have a message that is "Fishy propaganda...." Or maybe it was the fact that the media covered a story that could have been tragic but instead was made heartwarming. I don''t suppose you like to hear anything good come from the military community.
Semper Fi and thank you Steve, your cameraman, Ms. O''Haire, and the City of Boston.
If you stop please light a candle thank you the O'Haire Troop This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Walter O'Haire who was born in Massachusetts on May 15, 1986 and passed away on May 9, 2007 at the age of 20. We will remember him forever. Walter has a nickname Gator, in which his mother named him after the cartoon Wally-Gator. Walter was one of a kind, he always did what he wanted to do reguardless the consequenses awaiting him on his arrival home. Walter was one of nine children, five brothers and four sisters Billy (oldest), Mathew, Amy, Margret, Thomas, Kevin, Patrick, and Kaylea-Rose. Maureen (Walter's mother) and late father Thomas O'Haire who passed away two years ago had five biological, and adopted four other children Gator being the youngest of the biological set. Walter has always been a good kid although he had his rebelious stage as a young boy he grew to be a man. Walter will forever live in our hearts and will never be forgotten. We all are so proud of what he has accomplished and I know his father as well watching over him proudly. Gator died a true hero and that's how he will always be remembered.
